My story: A few years ago (some 4 years) I bought a used white Wii.

I softmodded it using the information on the following sites (I saved them in case I ever needed them again)

I have a USB drive connected to the Wii with the few games I want to play on it.

Back when I set all this up, it worked mostly flawlessly. All my games worked etc.

I haven't played Wii for a while, tho, so I put it away and didn't use it for maybe a year. Today my new rechargeable batteries arrived (the BigBen ones with reloading station were shit and broke, which was part of the reason for me putting the wii away) and so I set it up again and tried to see if everything still works.

I launched a few games here and there, some gamecube and some wii ones, and everything worked fine except one thing.

Kirby return to Dreamland freezes after pressing 2.

The really curious part is this: I had played this game before and have made no changes to my Wii since then. As I said I initially set the console up (as described above) and everything worked fine and I haven't made any changes since the original setup. But for some reason NOW the game doesn't work anymore.

Now I have seen a lot of people seem to have this problem but I am quite frankly not versed enough to understand the solutions. I modded the Wii through guides only. And that was 4 years ago. So right now I have little to no understanding of what the hell I did back then, what a cIOS is and many other things.

So finally here is my (are my) question(s):

1. Could my Wii have undergone any changes while not being used for a year? Like losing settings because of it's memory/system not having been connected to electricity for so long? (personally I don't think this is very likely but I thought I'd ask)

2. How do I fix this? ELI5 version. If you need any information from me, it would be nice if you could also explain where/how I can get that information.

Here's some information that may be relevant:

In the system settings of my Wii it says 'Ver. 3.3E'

I use 'USB Loader GX' to browse and load my games

I have my games on a USB drive

The settings of the Kirby game are all set to standard (read somewhere that Kirby doesn't like special settings so I made sure to reset the settings while trying to make it run)

Any takers? I'd be very thankful. Once again, tho, I'm absolutely unfit in terms of anything regarding this topic. It's been years since I have modded my Wii and even then I only had a very basic understanding of what I was doing. So please ELI5. Step by step.
