I'm sorry if this is a common question, but I looked and didn't see one that specifically hit this niche.
I'm a writer wanting to get into game dev. I have done rudimentary coding in high school (more than a decade ago), but learning C# from scratch is such a huge call that I'm not even going to attempt it right now. But I want to start making games and learning, so I'm looking for a game engine that can help.

I mostly want to make games to learn and grow and maybe actually make something good once I'm not a total gronk any more. This is mostly a hobby that might become more if I'm passionate enough to git gud.
Is Gamemaker Studio the one to go for? The creator license is cheaper than Unity Playmaker, but you can't publish to anything other than your pc (is this a problem, I don't know enough to know. Would I be able to do game Jams with this license?).
Is Unity Playmaker a good fit to what I've said?
I've looked at Godot, but there are not a lot of visual scripting tuts for that app and it looks like I might have to learn the gscript anyway?
