From Wikipedia: The American Standard Version (ASV) is rooted in the work that was done with the Revised Version (RV) (a late 19th-century British revision of the King James Version of 1611). In 1870, an invitation was extended to American religious leaders for scholars to work on the RV project. A year later, Protestant theologian Philip Schaff chose 30 scholars representing the denominations of Baptist, Congregationalist, Dutch Reformed, Friends, Methodist, Episcopal, Presbyterian, Protestant Episcopal, and Unitarian. These scholars began work in 1872.

The Revised Version, Standard American Edition of the Bible, more commonly known as the American Standard Version (ASV), is a revision of the King James.

The RV New Testament was released In 1881; the Old Testament was published in 1885. The ASV was published in 1901 by Thomas Nelson & Sons. In 1928, the International Council of Religious Education (the body that later merged with the Federal Council of Churches to form the National Council of Churches) acquired the copyright from Nelson and renewed it the following year.

The divine name of the Almighty (the Tetragrammaton) is consistently rendered Jehovah in the ASV Old Testament, rather than LORD as it appears in the King James Bible.

The ASV was the basis of four revisions. They were the Revised Standard Version, 1971, the Amplified Bible, 1965, the New American Standard Bible, 1995, and the Recovery Version, 1999. A fifth revision, known as the World English Bible, was published in 2000 and was placed in the public domain. The ASV was also the basis for Kenneth N. Taylor's Bible paraphrase, The Living Bible, 1971.

Just 1 Word Bibles

I have been using almost all the English bibles since I was allowed to leave the Carthusian Monastery I entered in 1994 and became Fr. Cyprian Bishop, O.Cart. Unfortunately, I was hit by a car but fortunately when I bought an iPad and started using the Just 1 Word Bibles I discovered how wonderful they are. They are easy, simple and I could with the aid of the Breviaries they have here, I was able to establish a prayer life like the one I had in Italy. They translations are just delightful and you can navigate them with ease. Add a prayer book like that by Michael Buckley and some readings and prayers you can download like that of Fisheaters-traditional prayers and, thanks to Just 1 Word my primary prayer life is back. May God Bless them for their helpfulness too.

Great ap for studying and making notes

I love the fact that you have different options for highlighting, I use one color for passages I want to memorize, another color for those I want to study further for example. It sometimes takes a little patience to get exactly the passage that you want to highlight as others have noted. But this is a small issue relative to the value of the app. I especially like the ability to bookmark and make my personal notes or references. My regular study Bible is not only all marked up but it's full of scraps of paper to keep my notes with the passage of scripture. As a senior citizen I'm not quite ready to use this as a substitute for my regular Bible, but the more I use it the more I appreciate it.

New update

I have used this app for several years. I have even purchased Bible versions and have been extremely satisfied with the ability to open the app quickly and start my study or quickly find verses to read. But this new update is awful with all the advertisements at startup. I wouldn’t be so upset if I hadn’t actually purchased a number of their Bible versions. I would even be willing to make a purchase or a subscription, anything if it meant I could get away from all these advertisements. It’s so distracting that I’m actually considering starting all over again with another app.
Update: I paid the fee to stop the advertisements and now I’m able to use the app again. I moved from one star to three because I don’t think I should have had to pay to stop the ads when I have purchased Bibles but it was only $1.99 and the purchased Bibles weren’t that expensive so I’m okay with that.
